text editors:

The first thing you'll need for building your website. For your own sanity, please do not edit directly through neocities!
(like I did for three years)

I use Atom, but github sunset it in 2022, so here are some alternatives I've found instead
(or you can just use atom like I still do. I'm not your dad.).

brackets - can be used in browser and has a preview

notepad++ - lightweight, simple, and easy on your pc

coding/website building:

W3schools - an amazing coding resource

CreateBlog - html/css templates

html color codes - a hex-code colour picker

A Complete Guide to Flexbox - flex boxes confuse me but this helps

sadgrl online's webmastery resources - sadgrl's themes are everywhere and there's good reason for that
- in-depth html/css guide

website templates

Personal tips:

I recommend taking advantage of seperate css files where ever possible. If you use a template with a style sheet inside, it may be better in the long term to move that code into a css file.

DO NOT store your asset files in discord or anything similar. Not only does discord not work anymore (ruining dozens of websites who were using it) but the code will be much simpler if you just use the neocities free file storage. My image urls typically look like this 'imgs/my-image.png'. Easy peasy!

If your'e using something other than neocities, look into a reliable file hosting service.
